Do not travel to other provinces, pleads Gauteng Health MEC – 702

Gauteng MEC for Health Dr Bandile Masuku says they have been preparing for pressures the public health sector might face during the COVID-19 pandemic since January.

Speaking to Clement Manyathela, Masuku says they have been in communications with the private sector to assist them should the need arise.

It is a discussion we have started with the private hospitals together with the DTI, the Competition Commission and hospital groups about the costs.

We need to remain responsible and rational in whatever decision we take and I think the lockdown is trying to indicate to us all that we need to contain the infections where they are.

So we encourage those in Gauteng, immigrant workers to stay put and not put other provinces on the risk of the spread of the infection.
