The entertainment industry was mourning the passing of a Pretoria actor on Monday morning.
Cobus Visser (70) passed away in the early hours of Monday while receiving treatment in the Steve Biko academic hospital.
“Cobus Visser died early this morning. He is released from his pain. Thanks to everyone for the help and care. I hope he realises where he is now; how much the South African audiences loved him. My heart has a big hole in it. We walk a path together for 35 years. But he has been released of his pain. And that’s all that counts,” actress Lizz Meiring said on her Facebook post.
Meiring opened up about the recent reporting on Visser’s hospitalisation in the Steve Biko hospital.
“I didn’t want my dignified, dear friend Cobus to carry the label of ‘ardent actor lying in state hospital’,” Meiring said.
Visser appeared in South African soapies and series including Villa Rosa, Binnelanders, Vetkoek Paleis, Egoli: Place of Gold, Fiela se kind, 7de Laan and many more.
Meiring described Visser as loving, abundantly talented, smart, witty, extremely professional. “An icon in the entertainment industry and a veteran of literally hundreds of roles in television series, theatricals, films, radio dramas, reverberation series.”
