An alleged armed robber was still at large on Thursday afternoon following a fatal shooting at a business robbery in the Moot.
According to Ancelize van der Kooi, spokesperson for the Kilnerpark security, three armed men entered the Compuport business.
A shooting ensued.
“One robber was shot dead, another robber was arrested and a third robber fled the scène by foot.”
Van der Kooi said a client was shot and killed in the shooting while the owner of the business and another client were shot and wounded.
“The armed men used two vehicles in the incident,” van der Kooi said.
Van der Kooi also confirmed a firearm was recovered on the scène.
She further praised police and emergency services for their prompt response to the scène.
Emergency personnel and police were earlier still busy on the scene and a large part of the street was cordoned off. The road has been re-opened in the meanwhile.
A resident who lives nearby told Rekord that he and his gardener heard the shots and went into the street to investigate.
“My gardener saw one of the robbers fleeing over Soutpansberg Road towards the mall,” the resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said.
The neighbour and his gardener went to the business to see what had happened when they saw a body at the entrance of the business.
“When we saw a dead robber, we went back home as we feared for our safety.”
Another eyewitness, who works at one of the shops at Queen’s Corner, said he saw a commotion across the street and called the police.
The police could not yet confirm the incident or provide more information.
